This is just a short summary of our first day as a Samsung Global Blogger during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

This is just a short summary of our first day as a Samsung Global Blogger during the London 2012 Olympic Games. If you would be interested in the Dutch version, then by all means go visit the corresponding page on my Samsung Global Blogger page.

Just the evening before all Samsung Global Bloggers got split into smaller teams. I had the chance to be in a team with Ashley (US) and Vanessa (Germany) and our team was called High Resolution. At that time I think most of us were hoping the other team members would fit into the team. The next day we already knew we had a small but good team 🙂

The first day was actually one big surprise. We were told to get breakfast, and make sure to be ready for the bus, wear our Samsung Global Blogger shirt, bring our new Samsung Galaxy S III and be creative. Some of us expected to meet Jamie Oliver, others were hoping for David Beckham, and personally I was hoping to meet some athletes.

After a short drive, the bus pulled over at the Chelsea Football Stadium! Some of the Samsung Global Bloggers were already going crazy. I personally … was impressed … and didn’t know what to expect.

Inside we got to meet up with Tim Lovejoy and the jury who reviewed our audition video’s and our second clips during the finals. They were waiting for us with a new assignment.

Meet the Judges

The teams got joined together into 4 bigger groups and each group was assigned to one of the judges. Our group of 8 people got Amy Williams as a team captain. The 8 of us only briefly spoke to each other the night before, but Amy gave us a new assignment … one we had to complete as a group :

  • Shoot a 30 second video clip
  • Everyone form the team had to be in the clip
  • It must be one continuous take (no editing)
  • The video had to convince people to come back the next few days to see more

Well … this all sounded quite difficult to us. And then we heard about the final rule … We had only one hour to complete the task. So a quick brainstorm, a few test takes, and one hour later we were actually ready and quite happy with the result.

Waiting for the Torch Bearer

Later during the day, we had the opportunity to watch one of the Torch Bearers passing at the Chelsea Stadium. The street was quite packed with people, the sun was there and the atmosphere was great. We had to wait a little …

A few days before, I had the opportunity to do a quick chat with one of the Belgian Torch Bearers and he described his experience as something he had no words for. People clapping, cheering and laughing on the streets and for some people the emotions were too much and he mentioned seeing tears of joy.

Well … that’s exactly the emotions I felt … and even the tear was there …

After all that emotion, I still had some time to pay a little visit to the Chelsea Store. I bought a shirt and shorts for my son, and even printed his name on it. I can assure you … he was very happy when I got home !

Want to hear more about my Samsung Global Blogger experience ? Well, I’ll try to create some more posts in the next few days. Meanwhile … you can have a look at the Flickr Set containing all the pictures I shot on that first day, and have a look at the video I created from that first day :
